In the mid-80s, Shyster was the hottest unsigned act in the Midwest, with their songs being added to major FM station playl-ists and selling 10,000 units of their independent EP in the first six months it was released. Their hit song "Bernadeane" includes saxophonist Ricky Bell from the Michael Stanley Band -- it was a number one song in many Ohio cities and earned the band gigs with Cheap Trick, Night Ranger, Eddie Money and B.T.O. Guitarist James Goare went on to play with Heartland, The Other Half and The Affair, a band that was also based in Toledo, Ohio. Of note, this tape was produced by Carl Maduri III (Dianna Ross, Michael Stanley, Donnie Iris and the Gap Band).
