Howard Gripp & Stinger - Walk Away 1995 (AOR) US

Howard Gripp released this first solo album 'Walk Away' in 1995 and musically it's pure melodic rock from the 80's. The production was in the hands of Howard Gripp himself with the help of co-musicians Bob Peters and Houston. Although the production is average, the music is really fantastic. The album begins with "Forever Lost", a melodic song of hard rock with a slower pace and with some references to SKID ROW early, while the rest of the CD is an excellent AOR with excellent connection lines and great vocal harmony, something as well as DANGER DANGER. Then we get to hear an excellent song titled "Only Half As Good". This song is a powerful Rockballad AOR in the late 80's style with some nice keys. The song is comparable to ballads from bands like REO SPEEDWAGON, DAMN YANKEES, NIGHT RANGER and even SHERIFF comes to mind when listening to this song. This song is really wonderful AOR radio rock from the early 80's that contains everything you need to hear in a good song. It has pompous keys, catchy hook lines, good main vocals / harmony voices and an incredible AOR chorus from the early 80s that reminds me of FRANKE AND THE KNOCKOUTS, PRISM, PREVIEW, BALANCE and JOURNEY! What more do you need to hear in a classic AOR song! The next song "Look Into My Eyes" has a classic AOR start with some excellent AOR keys such as SURVIVOR, only the song itself doesn't have such a catchy chorus, heavy 80s heavy rocker like PROPHET. The CD continues with "This One's For You", another powerful AOR ballad with excellent keys and vocals, comparable to the old NIGHT RANGER / DAMN YANKEES ballads. The next track "Stinger" also has a classic AOR beginning of the 80s with the wonderful keyboards. The song itself is great for the 80's AOR like NIGHTWORK, THE HEAT and RATHSKELLER. The next song "Now That You're Here" is another wonderful powerful AOR ballad that reminds me a lot of JOURNEY, especially the pure AOR keys are very remarkable in this wonderful song. "Promise Me" follows a more current melodic rock style like DANGER DANGER. The closure of this fantastic AOR CD is "Nothin 'New" and, oddly enough, it sounds like the opening theme. This CD is a must for fans of the 80s typed AOR / Melodic Rock. There are many great keyboards in this album and if you like the old NIGHT RANGER, JOURNEY, PRISM and you also like some typed songs of DANGER DANGER..(WHORT)
