Hollywood Bears - Bear Yourself 1987 (AOR) USA
15:45The cover already looks promising and makes you wonder what's behind the cover..? The band name and also some rumours gave the impression of a Glam band, but this is not true. Only the first songs has a bit of a glamish feel, but the other 3 songs a prime time AOR. Check out the soundclip to give you an idea and you'll agree it's a real pity there are only 4 songs on the Ep. The production is very good for an indie. Why they didn't have the success of Bon Jovi, xtreme,....etc is puzzling because musically, this band had it all to make it big....a shame.(Vanbuel) |

The Muggs - Rockin' In The Midnight Light 1985 (Melodic Rock) USA
5:38Another single-album band, this time from California. With no surnames given, I know nothing else about the band members. Nice arpeggiated keys on quite a few tracks and chugging powerful guitars in a Survivor towards Bon Jovi style, although there's a hint of the sort of sound Airrace and Shy were making too. The vocals, without ever being atrocious, are the weaker part of the package. A rare and collectible item worth the hunt, if not perhaps flying out to pick up!.Stephen Allen

The Now - Overnight Stay 1989 (Melodic Rock) UK
5:35Very good Melodic Rock with a hard edge. Guitar sound and riffs are very NWOBHM. Recorded in the UK with sleeve refferences to the USA, and a vocalist whos voice has a very German timbre, its hard to work out exactly where these guys originated from since my album is a Jap release! Again...answers on a post card...!

Superstition - Second Life 1985 "EP" (Hard Rock) Suecia
16:45Going by the picture, obviously a very young band who look as though they'd just finished their final high school exams, the year before. Therefore, all things considered, I can't and won't slag this release off.
The vocals and harmonies could have been better, and the songs a little more polished, but the potential was there for better things.
A definite collectors item (vinyl single), and one that doesn't quite emanate quality, but does ooze a bundle of charm.
B-Side is a better song, and is the mp3 sample below.
